I'm stuck there between Brother and Microsoft (aka "a rock and a hard place"). There is no HL-1440 driver to select, although Brother support insists that it is there and supported by Microsoft. In the Brother section, the list goes from HL-1210W series to HL-1660 BR-Script, without an HL-1440 in between. If I plow ahead, I get to a button, Windows Update, (which is not really a windows update, but a place that gets an updated list of all the available printer drivers. To install a printer that is not recognized by the Windows system, I was directed to Settings Printers & Scanners add a printer The printer that I want isn't listed Next (My printer is a little older. Therefore, I cannot right-click on the printer to search for update. Both can get to the print server's setup app in a browser with 192.168.0.222īut neither seems to "see" the printer in Printers and Devices.My HL-1440 printer has not been installed on this Windows 10 laptop. In Printers and Devices on hers, however, the printer didnt have an Offline setting that I could try to change like I did on my desktopīoth machines show ipconfig as 192.168.0.131 and 132 with 255.255.255.0 and 192.168.0.1 as gateway, so they seem to be on the same subnet as the wireless router and the print server.
Then I went to my wife's laptop, and there too I could not get her laptop to "see" the printer. I clicked on that, and unchecked the line for "Work offline" and suddenly it printed. I reset the printer on the desktop to the old settings, and looked into it and saw it was Offline. I tried removing the printer and re-adding it as a network printer, but the Windows 7 could not "find" it on the network which was odd, since the print server could, and I can get to the print server at its IP and can see its configuration application * print server found the printer and set it as its default printerīut I could not print to it from my desktop. * usb that used to go from my desktop to the printer now goes print server to printer
